Therese Carrier (president of The Josiah Foundation, Inc.) decided after her
brother, Joe, passed away in 2004 to establish a foundation to assist those
with physical and mental development disabilities. Joe was left
wheelchair-bound after suffering severe injuries in a 1988 car accident.
According to the most recent census, more than 54 million people in the U.S. are
living with a disability. That’s one in every five people. Of that number, four million are children between 6
and 14, and 11 million are people older than 6 who need personal assistance
with an everyday activity.1
The Josiah Foundation was incorporated in 2007 to help such individuals in
various capacities, such as education, healthcare, community living and
recreation.
